Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

Our first trip in Alaska was through Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. We traveled from Chitina on a a dirt road for 60 miles to the town of McCarthy. I was able to tag a few signs with Backcountry.com goat stickers during the pit stops on the way out. From McCarthy, we trekked to the other formally abandoned mining town of Kennecut. We made our way from there north onto the Root Glacier. The Root Glacier confluences with the Kennicott Glacier. We strapped on the crampons and traveled across the Root Glacier to the land mass peninsula between the glaciers. With bears in this backcountry, we successfully survived a night without any unneccessary dry humping, although, I am unaware of what was going on in the other tent. Here are some photos of the old mining towns and the Root Glacier.
