My father and I accomplished the rigorous circumnavigation of the Great Salt Pond via kayaks, during our week on Block Island. The Great Salt pond is a lot like the Great Salt Lake, only different. The Great Salt Pond was actually a pond for most of its life, until they dug a channel for it to become the New Harbor in 1895… thats when salt became a major ingredient in its mix. A bird’s eye view of the Great Salt Pond: click here. The Great Salt Pond is a fraction of the size of the Great Salt Lake, but it has about 10 times the amount of boats in it.
