Book review: the confederacy of dunces

The book was recommended to me by my intellectually powered best bud, Justin. I don’t normally enjoy fiction, but being that I commute via train these days, it has proved to be an enjoyable read for me. It helps to pass the time.

This book is a classic comedy. And it is a great book to have on your summer reading list. Ignatius Reilly is the indescribable main character. He lives with his mother and is the ultimate “Bubble Boy.” He never tries anything without an enormous excuse behind his actions. He is like the quintessential alter-ego that everyone has within. The person that is afraid to touch any boundary and has a rationale (or an excuse) for every mundane action within ones life. Thats what made it such a great book. And that is actually where I found the inspiration. Although, sometimes we are plagued with laziness and comfort, one must always challenge their boundaries because in the worst case scenarios, like that of Ignatius’s, it will simply turn out to be a funny day. If you don’t get outta bed, nothing will happen and if you don’t step out onto the streets, you will only just be yourself, someone that no one has ever heard of. You can learn all you want from books and the internet, but in the end it is action that defines a person because no body can hear you unless you scream loud enough. I feel like I just got on a huge tangent there. If you made it this far, maybe you want to check out this book.
