It has come to my attention that there is a movie that appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival that should be showing at the Sundance Film Festival, as well. The film is about Skiing. It is about time that someone put together a real film, not that I don’t love “ski porn,” but the people that live the life of skiing need to know about the people that revolutionized skiing. The documentary was produced by Peter Jennings Productions. That right there, says a lot. Peter Jennings was an integral piece to every Americans perception of history. The movie focused mainly on Doug Coombs. That right there, says a lot. Coombsy was the quintessential skier. He was raised on the East Coast and revolutionized skiing on in Alaska and Europe. I rarely say this, but after watching this trailer, I have high hopes for this movie. Skiing needs to be explained to the rest of the world. Many people think that they know it or define it through their own perspective, but it needs to be seen through its heart. Coombs and the athletes featured in the movie are the best figures to represent this culture to the rest of the world.
Steep: The trailer
(I urge you to watch the interview with the producers)
